CAD 2,500 in bitcoin — and a demand for another 1,300

A warning about the Korvix Capital platform has popped up in r/CryptoScams. The author of the post, u/highwayt0h3ll, describes a story that looks textbook: first a connection on social media, then a WhatsApp chat, then a pitch to put money into an investment service. The "friendly" account had a big following across various social networks — and that, according to the author, is exactly what made it look trustworthy.

Then come the specifics, which matter more than any feelings. Between September 19 and October 25, the person sent about CAD 2,500 in bitcoin across four transactions, buying the crypto through Skrill and Shakepay. Not a single dollar came back — and now they're being asked to put in another USD 1,300 to supposedly "unlock" the withdrawal. The author saved screenshots of the chats, the payment demands, the site pages, and the transaction records, and plans to hand everything over to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. There are no links to the images in the post itself — the author is keeping them.

In the comments, any doubts about the wording were quickly cleared up. In user UpbeatFix7299's view, the word "suspected" is redundant here: "You can drop the "suspected", it's such a common scam that it's in the auto reply to your post." In the same comment he breaks down the mechanics: the names are made up, the company doesn't exist, there were no trades and no profits, and the followers are bot accounts sold in batches of ten thousand. As user No-Scientist2180 sees it, the communication channel alone is a verdict: being approached via social media and WhatsApp is a big enough red flag on its own.

There's also the response to the author's question about whether the money can be recovered. According to user Fit-Hat-3156, you shouldn't do it, because the scheme has entered its final stage. In user UpbeatFix7299's opinion, hunting for "recovery services" is a sure-fire way to lose even more: "Ignore the people messaging you and read the auto reply". The logic is simple and worth spelling out: if stolen crypto could actually be clawed back, the scheme wouldn't be raking in billions a year.

Meanwhile, the mechanics are described officially, and that's the most useful part for readers. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre states outright that fake platforms show non-existent profits, then pressure the victim and demand extra payments, after which withdrawals are blocked — adding: "Remember that legitimate investments allow you to withdraw funds without having to pay extra fees" [Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre]. The same page carries a separate warning about the second round of the scam: "If someone asks you to pay money to recover money you have already lost, it is a fraud." You can file a report online via reportcyberandfraud.canada.ca or by phone at 1-888-495-8501, plus notify your local police and the financial institution used for the payment. Both Skrill and Shakepay are just transfer channels in a scheme like this, and the DFPI notes that the payment services themselves usually aren't part of the scam — but the transactions should still be documented.

This report is for informational purposes only and is not a legal conclusion: no official regulator investigation into Korvix Capital has been published so far, and the conclusions rest on the post author's account, comments from discussion participants, and publicly available domain data.
