In the r/Scams community, user McBranding shared a warning about the fraudulent website OpenRoadBids, which poses as an auction for confiscated cars and RVs. The author of the post won the auction and received a call from a certain Daniel, who demanded payment for the purchase via wire transfer within 24 hours. The invoice lacked a VIN number and any title documents, and the payee was listed as Auto Valemont Motors LLC. A check revealed that this company's status in the state of Michigan had been revoked. When the author requested the VIN and proof of ownership, the scammer stopped responding.

According to user McBranding, further investigation uncovered other red flags. A reverse image search of the vehicle showed that the exact same RV had already been sold at another auction back in February. Furthermore, the physical address listed on the website turned out to be an airport parking lot in Nashville, Tennessee. Fortunately, the author managed to stop the payment and did not lose any money; however, upon registering on the site, they had submitted a scan of their driver's license, which resulted in their personal data being compromised.

In the comments, users discussed why this scam wasn't easy to find through a search. According to users AcceleratedCrawfish and Applauce, the website's domain was registered on April 29, 2026. This is why there hadn't been enough time for warnings to accumulate online, and search engines viewed the resource as legitimate. According to user psilocybin6ix, the victim needed to immediately report the fraudulent bank account to their bank's fraud department, which the author of the post did. User Pencil161 also recommended filing a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
