MetaMask phishing sites are stealing crypto wallets

Scammers are busy spinning up fake websites that look just like the official MetaMask wallet (metamask.io). The goal is simple: grab your seed phrase and clean out all your funds.

How to spot a phishing attempt:

  • Urgency and panic. Messages like "Your wallet has been hacked, restore access NOW" or "Confirm your seed phrase to update your wallet".
  • Seed phrase requests. The real MetaMask will never ask you to type your secret recovery phrase into a website. Ever. It's only ever used inside the official extension or app.

How to protect yourself:

  • Always check the URL in your address bar. Better yet, type metamask.io in manually instead of clicking on links.
  • Don't enter your seed phrase anywhere except the official MetaMask app when you're creating or restoring a wallet.
  • Only use official extensions from the Chrome, Firefox and Edge stores, and apps straight from the App Store and Google Play.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) on every service that supports it.
  • If something feels off, close the site and open MetaMask through the extension or app you already have installed.

And remember: if you've entered your seed phrase on a sketchy site, create a new wallet right away and move your funds over. Getting stolen assets back is next to impossible.
