The Monerica website has been operating since 2022 and has managed to gain the trust of a large audience. On various forums, this exchanger directory is often mentioned as a reliable and noteworthy resource. However, behind this attractive facade lies a completely different picture.
The first doubts arose after a discovery on the Bits.Media forum. On January 21, 2026, a user with the nickname saylor22 published a report: he created an exchange request through the BitcoinVN service but did not make the payment. After that, he went to Monerica and left a 5-star positive review, providing the ID of the expired order. Sometime later, the review appeared on the website—without any verification of whether the transaction actually took place.

Considering that since that post, Monerica has updated its design and started assigning the "Valid Order" status to reviews, I decided to check if the situation had changed.
Experiment #1 (06/21/2026)
I created an order on the SageSwap platform and did not make the payment. After waiting for the order to expire, I wrote a positive review. Result: my review was published without any issues and received the coveted "Valid Order" tag.

I repeated the same steps, but this time I chose CCE.Cash as the exchanger. The result was absolutely identical: the fake review successfully passed moderation and was once again marked as a "Valid Order".

But fake positive reviews are only half of the problem. It has been mentioned online multiple times that Monerica's administration easily hands out "Scam" tags to services. At the same time, major scammers who have stolen substantial amounts (for example, Tomboi, who stole $100,000, or ByWare) are simply quietly deleted from the directory. No traces, no warnings for users—as if they were never there in the first place.
It is impossible to accurately calculate the number of fake reviews on Monerica since 2022. But judging by the fact that moderation is either non-existent or frankly poor, there is a legion of such reviews on the site.
The scheme is dangerously simple: a potential scammer easily writes positive reviews for themselves to lure in clients. A trusting user sees the "Valid Order" status, calmly sends their money there, and loses it. And if the scam amount turns out to be too large and causes a stir, the administration simply deletes the scammer's page, quietly and without any unnecessary fuss.
Currently, Monerica is a potentially dangerous resource to use, where it is impossible to distinguish truth from fiction. For your own safety, I recommend using more reliable and transparent platforms, such as KYCNot.me.

This whole thing just goes to show one thing, there's no such thing as a super-trusted, verified site you can rely on 100%. And honestly, it's really messed up that by doing this, they're actually helping scammers by posting outright fake reviews.
But here's the kicker — "KYCNot.me" itself, the one everyone recommends as a reliable source, got caught doing the exact same thing. To be fair though, they admitted it happened because of insufficient vetting and promised to tighten up their comment moderation.
KycNotList — new, but apparently pretty popular — has also been busted for posting fakes. There's proof of it on the bits.media forum, as well as on bitcointalk.
The truth is, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of sites like this with fake reviews out there — these ones just happened to land in the spotlight and got exposed.

We have received many similar attempts such as yours to post fake reviews with swaps that were not performed and those have been rejected. Do you make note of that? No, you don't. Out of nearly 1,000 reviews, these 3 got through and they are now removed. If there are others you believe got through without completing a swap, please let us know.
The owner of the listing has the ability, using their PGP key, to see the actual order URL and information submitted now.
We manually check all of them and have make it harder recently to post reviews by requiring more data. These ones that got through were assumed to have expired, as some sites only show the URL for 24 hours or so for privacy reasons. But now that we know people trying to post bad reviews about us, we can no longer assume the URL has expired.
You blame us for marking services a scam? This is strange. We link to the reports on the listing page or make notes of what was reported to us. If we remove a listing it's almost always because their website doesn't load anymore.
Overall, people trust our site because the reviews and data are real and if we find a report such as this, we act on it. We understand there are many who want to attack our reputation and push people to competitors but as you can clearly see here, we act on whatever we find and are transparent about it.

How am I supposed to know how many fake reviews you've received and how many you've rejected? That's just your word, and there's no way to verify it. You removed those three reviews only after they were called out publicly. No one knows how many other fake reviews are still on your site because nobody has publicly mentioned them.

I'm not the one damaging your reputation - you're doing that yourselves by taking actions that mislead users. So don't try to shift the blame for your own mistakes onto others.
I've been familiar with the Monerica website for quite a while now, and I think this directory is pretty good. Yes, the situation with fake reviews is unpleasant and raises concerns, but Monerica gets better every day, and I hope they draw the right conclusions and that the moderation team will carefully review the reviews posted on the site.
As for removing exchangers that have been caught scamming, I don't think they should be removed - users should know who the scammers are.
