In July 2026, a case gained publicity on the Bitcointalk forum regarding the freezing of 12,441 ETH (about $20,000) belonging to the user Benedesuuuk on the GhostSwap platform. The funds were sent on May 24, but the exchange was never executed. The main problem lies in a glaring contradiction: the service is advertised as "No KYC" and non-custodial, but after receiving the deposit, it required the user to undergo full verification via SumSub. Furthermore, according to Benedesuuuk, blockchain analysis showed that the crypto was redirected to an address associated with the HitBTC exchange, although GhostSwap itself denies that the exchange is holding these funds.

The situation attracted the community's attention, particularly from a user named Murat, who advised reaching out to the OrangeFren aggregator, where GhostSwap has a $26,000 insurance deposit. OrangeFren's intervention forced the service to temporarily make contact. However, according to an OrangeFren representative, they cannot directly compensate for the losses because Benedesuuuk did not use their referral link when visiting the site. This stance was harshly criticized by the user RedFlix, who pointed out the unfairness of an escrow system that only protects "its own" clients, while the service continues to scam others. Under pressure from the community, OrangeFren decided to hide GhostSwap from its platform until the incident is resolved.

GhostSwap explained its actions by pointing to an automatic AML check: according to the user Trêvoid, Benedesuuuk's wallet was blacklisted after the application had already been created. The user FinneysTrueVision suggested that the freeze could have been caused by the funds' connection to Tornado Cash, but according to Benedesuuuk, he had never used this mixer and provided the service with a signed statement attesting to the legality of the funds.

At the same time, GhostSwap's support team is not providing clear deadlines for unfreezing the assets, and since July 8, has completely ceased communication. In response, Benedesuuuk filed an official scam report and created a Trust Flag, which were supported by forum veterans, including the user LoyceV.

Currently, the victim has proposed a compromise solution: pay him the 12,441 ETH from OrangeFren's insurance deposit, and let GhostSwap deal with its internal checks at its own pace and return the money to the aggregator later. This case clearly demonstrates the risks of using exchange services that falsely claim to have no KYC and rely on third-party liquidity pools, which can block a transaction at any moment.
