On the r/CryptoScams subreddit, user u/inmanibusdei asked for advice about a worrying situation. He'd been following a female trader for a long time — charlattewins on X and charrrrrrrlottttttttt on TikTok — and thought she was funny. Out of nowhere, she DM'd him and offered copy trading — basically, "copy my trades and I'll take a cut of your profits". Then she walked him through it step by step — first a ZenGo wallet — then signing up on the trading platform vortexopts — so he could copy her trades.
That's when things started to smell fishy. When the author began asking questions — especially about the platform itself, since he couldn't find anything about it anywhere online — the conversation suddenly turned strange. Even her writing style changed — as he suspects, it wasn't her typing anymore. Meanwhile, on the unfamiliar site he'd already gone ahead and registered, handing over his ID documents. He couldn't attach screenshots of the chat — and searching the web for any mention of this story turned up nothing. The more popular the person, the stranger it is that there's zero trace of them doing anything like this.
According to user u/SecureWriting8589, top 1% commenter badge and all, no screenshots needed — this is a run-of-the-mill scam that gets discussed here and on r/Scams all the time. Block and ignore — if you want to keep your money.
According to u/UpbeatFix7299, also from the top 1% — it doesn't matter who was writing — her, her accomplice, or an impostor using her name — it's a hundred percent scam and you can't take one more step.
According to roninconn, passive copy trading doesn't exist in the wild — yet millions of scams are built on exactly that premise.
According to u/Accurate_Demand_6840, this is confirmed by personal experience — he lost $60K to copy trading. When it came time to withdraw, they demanded even more money from him. For the sake of making it look real, fake traders sit in the chats pretending to be making money — they're all part of the scheme. He advised the author to post a warning on this person's page, if he can.
According to Mariss716, the gist is aphoristic — don't discuss money with strangers. No stranger wants to help you with your money — they want to help themselves to it. There's no investing there — the site is fake and the numbers on it are fake.
According to u/npaladin2000, the diagnosis is obvious from the first words — X and TikTok. Why would a big trader message random followers and help them with day trading — rhetorical question.
User u/webbinatorr first rated the story an 80% scam — meaning, in the remaining scenario, the girl would just be placing bets with your money — you win, she takes the pot's cut — you lose, you eat it. In the discussion, he agreed the honest number is still 100 — even a real, washed-out trader hunting other people's money for a slice of the winnings is essentially the same scam.
According to u/ChrisLBC562, copy-pasting someone else's trades isn't trading — and there's nothing legal about this story whatsoever.
Real celebrities don't DM random followers to share their wealth with them. One extra note for the author — your passport details have already flown off to a shady resource — keep your guard up about that too.
