On Reddit, in the r/CryptoScams community, a user shared an incredibly brazen scam scheme he encountered while exchanging cryptocurrency. According to the user Croeck88, he decided to exchange 2.4 ETH for USDT via the Swappix service, which he found on the BestChange aggregator. The exchanger had over 400 positive reviews and seemed absolutely reliable, but everything went off script.

As soon as the client sent his coins, the exchanger's website suddenly displayed a "404 Page not found" error. According to Croeck88, support responded quickly, claiming that the transaction had failed an AML check and promising to return the funds to the original wallet. But instead of an actual refund, Swappix pulled a cunning trick: they sent 2.4 ETH to the so-called Null/Burn address 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000. The transaction went through successfully.

The exchanger then used the hash of this "successful" transaction as proof of the refund on BestChange. The aggregator automatically marked the complaint as "resolved", hiding the warning from other users. According to the post's author, the money was irreversibly destroyed, and he was left with nothing.

In the comments, users harshly criticized the author's choice. According to user Soccermom_05, 400 reviews over two and a half years is nothing — major exchanges collect millions of reviews. He noted that Swappix's reviews look like bot-driven fake inflation, with identical phrases like "fast and prosperity". User Sweet-Rule-548 added that the service has a low trust rating on specialized websites (0/5 on ReviewBloc and 65/100 on Scam-Detector) and that there are already complaints about account freezes.

According to user sorrowedwhiskypriest, the BestChange situation showed that exchangers can manipulate complaint statuses, passing off a transfer to the null address as an honest refund. The community agreed that using anonymous no-KYC exchangers with a dubious reputation carries enormous risks, and that for large sums it is better to rely on proven exchanges.
